We’re huge fans of partner workouts. After all, who better to motivate you than a buddy you love to sweat with? But sometimes, your buddy’s head isn’t quite in the game. Well, this partner workout is the ultimate compromise.
As Chelsea Potter and Kenny Santucci, both trainers at Reebok and Solace, show us in the video above, you can get a full-body workout with just two moves and a little bit of compromise.
“You have a buddy who wants to go to the gym but you don’t feel like going,” Santucci says. “Why don’t you pick a workout, have your buddy pick a workout, and you guys do each movement for 50 seconds and you’ve got 10 seconds to transition.”
Talk about a quick fat-burner. (You can pack on massive muscle and get shredded with the Maximus Body method—intense workouts that will get you working harder than you have ever worked before.)
Chelsea’s move of choice: lateral step-overs. “Whether you’ve got a box, a bench, or a chair, it doesn’t matter,” she says. “You guys can hop up and over it.” Put one foot on top of the bench and, driving up through that heel, come right back down.
Santucci’s choice is, well, we’ll let him explain: “I’m a big upper body guy because I’m a juicehead from Jersey,” he says. So he likes to do ball slams on his knees. “I’m gonna take that ball up overhead and slam it down as hard as I can.”
With these simple steps, you and your reluctant buddy just might have your best workout yet.
